While wedding food trends aren’t important to everyone, they are interesting to read about. You might even find one that you love the idea of that you have never thought of before!
Popular 2022 Wedding Food Trends to Follow
Here are some of the most popular wedding food trends that are happening for 2022 (and 2023) and weddings!
Personalized menus
A popular wedding trend in 2022 is going to be more personalized food menus. Couples will be choosing their menu based on things that are meaningful to them as a couple, or their families.
This could be food relating to your first date, your proposal, or your favorite restaurant that you frequent as a couple. You could even have them cater the wedding!
Another example of this is cultural menus. If you have a certain culture in your heritage that means a lot to you, you might choose to incorporate it into your wedding day menu.
Comfort food
Because more couples are personalizing their menu choices, we are going to be seeing a lot more comfort food options! We’re talking carbs and cheese galore.
It’s your wedding day, so choose the food that you want to have! There’s nothing wrong with serving mac n’ cheese or pizza.
A popular example of this is to serve brunch. This is especially popular when couples are choosing a morning/mid-day wedding time! Think about it: chicken and waffles, avocado toast, hot donuts, breakfast tacos, mimosas… what could be better?!
Plant-based/vegan options
More and more guests are looking for vegetarian or vegan options when they attend a wedding. So, why not create your menu based off of that so that you don’t have to worry about having multiple options for everyone?
Some benefits to a plant-based or vegan menu is that it’s more sustainable, can be cost-effective, and most guests won’t even notice the difference!
Late-night snacks
Late night snacks aren’t exactly anything new. They have been popular for quite some time! However, couples are becoming more intentional and personal with their late night snacks! (Seeing a theme yet?)
For example, couples are choosing snacks that they love to eat during movie nights or from a fast food place that they frequent. Overall, the late night snacks are no longer a last minute decision — they’re a crucial piece to the menu planning process!
There are so many possibilities for this. Mini bags of popcorn, tacos from Taco Bell, McDonald’s chicken nuggets, pizza, ice cream sandwiches… literally anything can be done. No matter what you choose, it’s sure to be a hit!
Cake alternatives
As you’ve probably noticed in recent years, cake is becoming less popular as the wedding dessert. Many couples still choose to have a small, decorative cake for cutting purposes. However, many couples are choosing to have different options for their guests to eat for dessert!
Options could include:
- Ice cream sundae bar
- Dessert bar full of mini assorted desserts
- Pie
- Cookies
- Macarons
- Parfaits
- Donuts
Locally sourced foods
Finally, we are going to see more locally sourced foods being served at weddings in 2022. Many chefs/caterers do this anyway, but we are seeing couples start to be more intentional in seeking it out!
A great way to start with this is by finding a local restaurant to cater your wedding, or to provide dessert.
When it comes down to it, the best way to stay on top of trends and to incorporate the food elements that you’re looking for is to work closely with your wedding planner and caterer.
