Now that the temperature has fallen, we can’t help but shiver with excitement over all the possibilities for your current and future fall engagement photos. Whether you’re sipping on your warm apple cider or cozying up in front of the fire, we hope to share some adorable ways to spice up your photos.
What to Wear?
Fall fashion always finds a way to warm up any mood. Bringing rich earthy colors into play is a wonderful way to complement your outdoor fall engagement photos. Try choosing colors to mirror the changing leaves- reds, oranges, browns, and greens, are all recommended choices. If you’re looking for something a little more edgy and fun, try playing around with mixing in pops of color that might stand out a bit more. We love this blue floral dress and how it complements this groom’s green button down! And who can ever go wrong with a simple black and white outfit matched with a pop of fall color in the groom’s pants!
Hair & Makeup
I strongly encourage the ladies to get their hair and makeup professionally done for their engagement photos. Ryan and I recently, as in this past Sunday, got our engagement photos done. I had thought about booking an appointment to get my hair styled and makeup done but initially disregarded it. I thought I can do it myself and save some money. It wasn’t until our photographer e-mailed me and said: “and you’re getting your hair and makeup done, right?” That’s when I was like, yeah, I really should. I am so happy I did! It took the stress off of me in the morning and I got to enjoy the entire day. It also boosted my confidence and I felt great taking my engagement photos.
Accessorize
Adding little bits of flare are another tasteful way to customize your look for your engagement photos. Playing around with a chunky necklace or strapping on your favorite knee-high boots are all popular ways to dress up your look. We’ve seen our guys play around with accessories by trying out scarves, patterned socks, or even a casual tie/bowtie!
Bring something from home!
We have seen couples play around with props, bringing in their warmest flannel blankets or custom made signage with their wedding date or announcement. We also adore when their favorite furry friend gets to come for their close-up during engagement photos. Personalizing a shoot is a great way to make sure your shots are memorable and speak true to who you are as!
Location, Location, Location
To determine a location for your shoot, first decide on a vision. You might be picturing that you’re in the woods with fall leaves surrounding you. Maybe you’re curled up on the couch in front of a fireplace? Once you know the overall look for your photo shoot, you can start searching for the perfect spot. If you do a quick online search of your area plus “photography locations” you’ll get a ton of results to choose from! We have also used www.shothotspot.com where you can choose a location and they’ll provide examples of areas that photographers have hosted shoots! Pretty neat!
Have fun with engagement photos!
This is probably the most important part of the shoot! When you’re having fun and enjoying time with your significant other, it shows in the photos. Grab each other a little lighter, laugh a little more and flirt away!
