It’s finally time for one of the best parts of wedding planning – finding your dream dress! Whether you need a refresher or have no idea where to start, our guide for wedding dress silhouettes is here for you. We’re so excited to feature our friends K&B Bridals on this weeks blog!

One of the first questions that you’ll be asked when starting the journey of dress shopping is, “what types of wedding dress silhouettes are you leaning toward?” Here is our guide that will help you decide exactly what you’re looking for (or maybe just which style you want to try on first!)

The Most Popular Wedding Dress Silhouettes

Here are four of the most popular wedding dress silhouettes that you will find while wedding dress shopping!

Sheath

MAGGIE SOTTERO LOMARA-22MC534

Sheath wedding gowns are perfect for brides who are looking for more of a simple & effortless dress. They fall close to your figure and have very little shape to them.

Sheath wedding dresses are perfect for petite brides! They elongate you and emphasize your curves without being too tight on you. They also work very well for brides with an hourglass figure. If you are looking for a dress that doesn’t overpower you, then a sheath might be perfect!

Sheath dresses are also very low-maintenance. They typically have no train, or a very small train. Although, there are definitely options out there with a longer train! They are super easy to move around in, too.

Fit-and-Flare

JUSTIN ALEXANDER 88114

If you’re looking for a gown that shows off your curves, then a fit-and-flare might be your ideal choice. And if you’re looking for an even more dramatic version, then you might want to look into a Mermaid or Trumpet gown!

Fit-and-Flares are fitted, and sometimes hug your body, from the bust and waist to your hips and thighs. There is then a slight flare-out from the knee. Mermaids and Trumpets have more of a dramatic flare-out!

These are perfect for brides who want to show off their curves, but also want a slightly more relaxed style than, say, a Mermaid. And, most of them are surprisingly easy to move around in!

Fit-and-Flares are flattering on so many different body types. They also look amazing with a deep v-neckline or a sweetheart neckline. There is a reason why fit-and-flares are some of the most popular wedding dress silhouettes.

A-Line

LILLIAN WEST 66239

A-line dresses are pretty self-explanatory, based on the name. They are more narrow and fitted at the top of the gown, and then extend along your body, like the shape of an “A”

A-line wedding gowns are typically universally flattering. They look great on brides of any height or shape. Plus, if you’re not really looking to show off your bottom half, then an A-line might be perfect for you!

A-line dresses also work well for a variety of different weddings, whether it’s boho, rustic, classic, a beach wedding… pretty much anything you can think of!

Ballgown

SOPHIA TOLLI Y12014 KENNEDY

Finally, we have ballgown wedding dresses. These are fitted to the waist, and then flare out to a large, voluminous skirt. They are perfect for brides who want to feel like a princess on their wedding day!

This is another silhouette that is flattering on all body types, too. However, keep in mind that if you are more petite, it might feel overwhelming on you.

If you’re looking for bust support, a cinched in waist, or the illusion of wider hips, then a ballgown could be perfect! Besides, they are very popular among the Royals.

Now that you have a better idea of the different silhouettes, hopefully you know which ones you might be leaning towards! You might be ready to start trying on dresses. Click here to book an appointment with K&B Bridals!
